SSgt. Guy Wesley Burch, USMC, Phoenix, Az 16 Feb. 14
The family of SSgt. Guy Wesley Burch requests the services of the Arizona Patriot Guard Riders on Sunday February 16, 2014 for a flag line at the Memorial Services for their hero.Guy was born October 16, 1958 in Alabama. He joined the United States Marine Corps in January 1976. After Basic training where he earned the Rifle Marksmanship Badge he entered the Reserves for 5 years. He entered active duty in November of 1981 at MCAS Yuma, Az. He served proidly with the 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division as a rifleman, cook and recruiter. Guy was awared 3 Letters of Appreciation, the Meritorious Mast, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 4 Oak Leafs, Good Conduct Medal with 3 Oak Leafs, Meritorious Unit Citation, Natiounal Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal(K), Navy Unit Citation, the Rifle Sharpshooter and Pistol sharpshooter Badges.Guy completed 16 and a half years in the USMC and after discharge in 1996 he returned to Hixson, Tennessee. There he served as a Deputy Sheriff and met the love of his life and soul mate Peggy. Guy went back to school here in Arizona and was completing his Masters in Mental Health Counseling to work as a counselor with disabled veterans while Peggy continued her work as a Registered Nurse. Peggy and Guy had 10 wonderful and loving years together before he was called to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on January 25, 2014.Guy was a member of the American Legion in Tennessee and transferred to Post 91 in Chandler, Az and then to Post 39 in Gilbert, Az where he was also an American Legion Rider. Guy was also honored to ride missions with the Patriot Guard Riders of Arizona. Our humble Warrior with the ready and constant smile will be greatly missed by all the people whose lives he has touched. Guy was a Husband, Father, Brother, Friend and Marine.
The Memorial Service will be a 13:30 at the First Baptist Church of Tempe, 4525 S. McClintock Dr. Tempe, Az. There will be an Honor Guard from Post 39 and Flag presentation before the service and then friends will be asked to offer short comments as a celelbration of Guy's life. Our Patriot Guard Rider Scott "Dragon" Runde has gratiously acted as a liaison with the family in their time of need.
